Redefining Museum Operations for a Modern Era
Hi there, welcome to The Strategic Museum. I believe every museum has the potential to become an inspiring, cohesive, and forward-thinking institution. My approach to transformation doesn’t just address the symptoms of operational inefficiencies and resistance to change—I dig deep to uncover the root causes. By working closely with your team, I craft practical, sustainable solutions creating meaningful change from the inside out.
If you’re ready to strengthen your museum from within, let’s start a conversation.
How Transformation Occurs
Holistic Collaboration
I help break down silos and transform fragmented departments into unified teams. By fostering trust, improving communication, and aligning goals, I work to create a culture of seamless collaboration that empowers staff and enhances efficiency across the board.
Strategic Change Management
Change doesn’t have to be disruptive—it can be a catalyst for growth. I help museum teams navigate transitions by creating sustainable, replicable systems aligned with your mission. From digital transformation and AI to evolving audience expectations, I empower teams and ensure lasting impact.
Project Management Mastery
Effective project management is the key to delivering on your museum’s goals. I provide hands-on guidance to streamline planning, execution, and follow-through for projects of all sizes. With proven systems and tools, I help your teams stay on track, meet deadlines, and deliver exceptional results.
Three easy steps
UMA NAIR
Having dedicated over two decades to transforming both tech and museum teams, my journey as a person of color has shaped a unique perspective. I see museum objects as more than artifacts; they're vessels of lived experiences and cultural heritage. Moreover, I recognize museum professionals and organizational culture as vital for preserving history, heritage, and shaping the future of museums.
Despite immense learning and self-discovery in my museum career, I've also faced burnout. This experience highlighted the necessity for innovation and inclusivity in museum spaces.
My mission is to leverage my management experience to advocate for sustainability, innovation, equity, and cultural sensitivity within museums.
I was formerly at Google, Getty, Hagley, and other museums—where I conjured up philanthropy-based leadership strategies, created award-winning, multilingual digital exhibition projects, transformed operations and processes, and optimized existing tools and technologies.
I have an MBA in Marketing & Digital Systems and a certification in Museum Studies from Northwestern University. I’ve also received certifications and training in Project Management, UX Research & Design, Visual Design, & Design Thinking.
When I’m not working, I’m spending time with my family, volunteering, painting, traveling around the world, and reading up on the latest research in organizational theory, visual arts, cultural technology, the environment, archaeology, and heritage conservation.
I’m Los-Angeles based, soaking in that California sun, and ready to hop on a plane for some culturally impactful adventures. (While offsetting my carbon footprint, of course!)
